Arabic poetry has been and remains an essential component of Arab culture, as Arabic poetry culture is still blazingly present in the daily life of Saudi and Arab culture and is an inexhaustible resource. As a result, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has dominated the scene in Arabic poetry on multiple levels and in its numerous original and modern realms.
In light of the cultural significance of Arabic poetry, 2023 has been designated as the Year of Arabic Poetry.

In the cultural sector, we strongly believe in the cultural footprint of the Arabian Peninsula and its influential role in the growth of Arabic poetry, distinguishing this glorious art as an Arab cornerstone. Harvesting the fruit of great minds, its verses and stories documented the heights of thought and recorded Arab exploits. It conveyed their emotions, ideas, and aspirations for good while weaving tales of life and beauty. Setting forth from the pillars of Saudi Vision 2030, led by His Royal Highness The Crown Prince, we at the Ministry of Culture seek to strengthen this position of Arabic poetry in the culture of the individual, to honor its place in the orbit of human poetry, and hail progressive and sustainable poetic creativity in all its forms. We are proud to highlight the civilizational component of Arabic poetry, which stands out among all arts as a vessel of wisdom, knowledge, and great social influence rooted in the history of the Arabian Peninsula. We are also proud of the value of contemporary Saudi poetry and the prominent position it holds in the Arab world.
Designating 2023 as the “Year of Arabic Poetry” celebrates all of this through events, activities, and initiatives held throughout the year with the active partnership of members of society and concerned parties. In doing so, we set out to revive the rich history of Arabic poetry, recognize its valued presence in human civilization, and lay the foundations for its future prosperity as it takes its rightful place among the world’s arts, acknowledging the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a sponsor and supporter of Arab culture.
2023 will be celebrated as the Year of Arabic Poetry through events, activities, and initiatives held throughout the year with the active partnership of members of society and stakeholders. In doing so, we will set out to revive the rich history of Arabic poetry, recognize its valued presence in human civilization, and lay the foundations for its future prosperity as it takes its rightful place among the global legion of arts besides acknowledging the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a major promoter of Arab culture.
